Woohoooo – First stage sponsored!

Well it is actually the last stage that has been sponsored but it is the first sponsor that has jumped on board! Storsure didn’t hesitate to sponsor One Gear when approached and we are over the escarpment about it. Did you see what I did there? I changed the common phrase “over the moon” to escarpment as it’s the escarpment I am going to have to ride the BMX up in order to finish the One Gear challenge – I am very smart like that.

My mom would be so proud

I did a photo shoot with Trigger Monkey the other day after being told that I should document everything along the way. If you thought I was awkward in normal situations you should see me in front of the camera! Anyhoo, my mom should be super pumped that she finally has some pictures of me smiling…

VO2 Max Test

I recently completed a VO2 Max test with the guys from the Wits Physiology lab to gauge where I am at. I should get the results from them soon and will post  so that you can see where this cow’s natural abilities lie. In the meantime check out some pic’s from Trigger Monkey – the whole experience was captured brilliantly; looking at the photo’s is like experiencing every sweaty vein popping moment for yourself.

Over Achiever Early Birds

Went for a ride with my bro this morning and it became very apparent that there are a lot of extremely energetic, over achiever, early bird types residing in Joburg that exercise on a Sunday morning  – it’s awesome! It also didn’t hurt that some of the aforementioned birds were  somewhat easy on the eye…all in all a good 35km’s!

A country ride

Can you like to say corrugations! What a beautiful ride but oh my sack (literally) – those corrugations! The dirt road jolted some parts loose (and I am not talking about the bike).

Another training ride completed!

Well that makes it sound like it was planned and part of a scheduled and regimented build up to riding a BMX from Cape Town to Joburg…. it wasn’t  really – I just jumped on the bike and rode because it’s  fun to do that on  a Saturday morning. Ya so what was the exclamation mark about? mmmm ya it’s a little  unnecessary for me to have “exclaimed”  but another 30km cant hurt!!!!

!!!!!!!!!

Getting There – another 40 km under the proverbial belt

Where does the phrase “under the belt” come from anyway…hang on I will google it. Be back in a bit….

Oh the googler – it answers all questions: “The original meaning appears to be to have eaten or drunk something. If you have a good meal and a glass of wine under your belt, it’s because you’ve swallowed them and they are in your stomach.
It’s now more commonly used for achievements one has accomplished, especially achievements that you can have more than one of. (Years in a business, first place prizes, prior relationships, etc.) ”

I completed a 40km ride on the BMX on Sunday – check out the GPS track below although I am beginning to question its accuracy;  I completed the ride in 2 hours, which when you do some simple arithmetic, gives you an average of closer to EXACTLY 20km/h and not 13km/h …but anyhoo I am slowly getting the km’s up and my little pins are feeling a bit stronger…
