Have you ever wondered whether the money you spend ends up funding causes you oppose?

Buycott is an app that helps you identify brands that you align with and direct your consumer spend to support causes you believe in and not fund those you don’t. No not boycott…BUYcott.

Buycott recently got some serious attention and a massive spike in interest and downloads as more than 400,000 Palestinians decided to use the platform to boycott goods produced by Israeli-linked companies; obviously controversial and hence in all the news. Buycott says that they do not take sides and are encouraging Pro Israeli supporters to use the platform too. That’s exactly the point – they have created a platform, open for the world to use.

How it works:

“When you use Buycott to scan a product, it will look up the product, determine what brand it belongs to, and figure out what company owns that brand (and who owns that company, ad infinitum). It will then cross-check the product owners against the companies and brands included in the campaigns you’ve joined, in order to tell you if the scanned product conflicts with one of your campaign commitments.”

Some examples of causes you may be unknowingly supporting in your daily consumer spending practices:

Monsanto

Human Trafficking

Genetically Modified Foods

Boycott big beer – support micro brew

You get the point…it could be anything

Why we are interested in this:

You didn’t pick up on that barcoding thing? Just a reminder that our motto is “BARCODE EVERYTHING!”  Buycott have built a platform that empowers its users to achieve specific goals. Our goals are more business minded and our platform aims to help clients eliminate human error while automating mundane tasks, BUT at the end of the day both are a platform aimed at empowering the end user….oh and we are also into conspiracy theory and Buycott  is heavily laden with causes based on some of these theories!
