The zebra is a simple animal. Its distant relative, the barcode, is equally simple. Traditional belief goes that the barcode’s pattern contains within it a complicated ancestral knowledge; that each stripe represents a piece of some mystical and impossible puzzle! Much observation of the barcode herd has revealed that in fact a barcodes hide is thin and quite lifeless. The key however, it has been discovered, is that its stripes are distinctive making it possible to identify each individual. Unique identification means that barcodes can be tracked and controlled.
In tumultuous times it is possible to locate any given barcode and protect it from predators and the other rigours of life in the jungle. Weak or injured individuals can be isolated for repair and reintroduced when fit. It is also possible to look up a collection of data and linked research pertaining to each barcode in the group. This furthers the ability to manage the herd and allows for an ever increasing knowledge base to be shared.
Our fascination with Barcodes stems from their evolution and how they have become one of the work plains most cost effective proponents of order and control despite their simplicity and high reproduction rates. They have established themselves in a niche from which they are unlikely to be removed for many moons to come.
